Do you believe your thoughts carry power? How about your words? Actions? If you could choose to have a positive or a negative effect on yourself and others...which would you choose?
The answer may seem obvious, but the application seems to be harder. Untrained and unpracticed, our minds can set us up for failure. The problem oftentimes is that we don't even notice the negativity. It seeps into our thoughts about ourselves, our life, others. When we start turning our minds to the positive, to a mindset of gratitude, it becomes clear in which areas of our life we are seeking to be free of this negativity. Gratitude, from the root "gratis" means “to be free, or out of kindness.” So, living in gratitude is being thankful...and being free. Free from all of those unhelpful emotions that we experience on a daily basis such as anger, jealousy, insecurity, prejudice, pride, self-pity. The list goes on and on. But we can choose to free ourselves from them.
What's your thought training look like these days? Resolve to develop awareness on how you perceive the world and replace the negative thoughts that arise (especially toward yourself!) with joy, gratitude, or another positive thought.
